Overview

Pozorrubio is a 1st class municipality in the province of Pangasinan, Phillippines. According to the latest census, it has a population of 63,689 people in 11,288 households. The name “Pozorrubio” is derive from “pozo” means heart and “rrubio” means red. Pozorrubio was formerly a sitio and later a barrio of San Jacinto, Pangasinan. 

 

History of Pozorrubio

“Claris” was the old named of Pozorrubio. On June 19, 1968, petitioned of  the landowners of the Barrio Claris to the Governor of the Philippines thru “Alcalde Mayor” to convert Barrio Claris into an independent town. In order to minimize or stop robberies by the Igorots living in the nearby mountains and their Christian allies.  Smuggling of tobacco is the one reason of the people of the Barrio Claris. To improve agriculture so as to increase tribute and to enable the inhabitants to fulfill religious duties is also the reasons. November 3, 1869, at last the Barrio Claris was converted into independent town approve by Governor General de la Torre. And named it “Pozorrubio” based on the report of the town’s surveyors regarding water coming from the red ruby-like well .
